Pew ropes help guests recognize reserved seating for worship services, weddings, funerals and special events. The best choice depends on your pew layout, how the ends will attach, and when you need the ropes. Start with a measurement of the actual route the rope will follow—not an assumed number of rows.
Quick choice: choose tassel ends for a decorative hanging finish, or hook ends when your installation calls for attachment points. Then select the length, color and quantity, and check whether you are ordering available stock or ropes made especially for your church.

1. Measure the path, including the drape
Use a piece of string or soft cord to mock up the placement. Lay it over the actual pew ends or along the attachment points, with the drape and hanging ends you want. Mark the ends, remove the string, and measure it. This is more useful than measuring only the straight distance between two points.
- Choose the first and last pew or attachment point.
- Run the string along the intended path, allowing for curves, drape and hanging ends.
- Measure the marked string and compare it with the available rope lengths.
- Before ordering, confirm whether the quoted finished length includes the tassels or hook hardware if that distinction affects the fit.
Our made-to-order listings offer common lengths of 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 feet. For a different length, contact us for a quote. Pew widths, spacing and end shapes vary, so a 12-foot rope does not reliably equal a particular number of rows. Measure both sides if the layout is not symmetrical.
2. Compare tassels and hooks
| Style | What to consider | Our made-to-order option |
|---|---|---|
| Tassel ends | A decorative hanging finish. Plan where the rope will rest and how much rope should hang at each end. | ½-inch pew ropes with two tassels |
| Hook ends | Check your intended attachment points, the required hook opening and the hardware finish before ordering. Do not assume existing fittings will match. | ¾-inch pew ropes with two hooks |
Rope diameter changes the visual scale of the installation. Compare the look against your pew ends and sanctuary furnishings. These are decorative reservation ropes, not load-bearing barriers or fall protection. Keep active walkways, accessible routes and exits clear.

3. Choose a color that works in your space
Our current made-to-order selections are black, blue, burgundy, gold, green, white and gray. Compare the rope with the pew cushions, wood finish and other sanctuary textiles. Screen colors vary. If an exact match matters, contact us before ordering; color availability and matching should be confirmed for your project.
For a coordinated installation, order the needed ropes together when practical. Keep a record of the selected color and length for later replacements.
4. Count ropes before comparing pack prices
Count the separate sections you need to mark and the number of ropes each section uses. For example, a layout with ten reserved sections and one rope on each of two sides needs twenty ropes. Your layout may use a different arrangement.
The JCR made-to-order range offers singles, 5-packs and 20-packs. Compare the total pack price and the cost per rope; the displayed pack price covers the entire pack. Tassel and hook ropes have different quantity savings. A pack contains the selected length and color, so use separate selections for a mixed order. Some remaining-stock CP7 listings also offer packs, subject to available component stock.
5. Match your order to your event date
Made-to-order JCR ropes: allow an estimated 2–4 weeks for production before dispatch, plus carrier transit time. Quantity, color availability and the maker's workload can affect the schedule. An order being available to purchase does not mean the ropes are ready to ship.
Remaining-stock CP7 ropes: these are separate listings with limited available quantities. Check the selected variant rather than assuming every listed length or color is on hand. Browse pew ropes and accessories to compare the current options.
If you have a firm event date, contact us before ordering. Local pickup of made-to-order ropes must be arranged after production; it does not shorten the making time. Wait for pickup confirmation before traveling.
$5.94 flat U.S. shipping on JCR made-to-order ropes
Standard U.S. shipping is $5.94 total for all JCR made-to-order pew ropes in an order, whether you buy a single rope, multiple packs, or a mix of lengths and colors. Other products—including CP7 in-stock ropes—may add separate shipping charges. Expedited service and destinations outside the United States are not included. Production time is separate from transit time.
Common questions about pew ropes
Can I cut a finished rope shorter?
Cutting changes the finished end and can lead to unraveling or a poor attachment. Order the length you need or ask about a custom length before altering a finished rope.
Will one length fit every church?
No. Measure your actual installation, including drape and hanging ends. Confirm finished-length conventions if the fit is close.
Should I choose made-to-order or remaining stock?
Choose made-to-order when you need coordinated quantities and can allow production time. Check remaining stock when the available lengths and colors fit your project and timing.
What information helps you quote a custom order?
Send the measured path, desired end style, color, quantity, destination ZIP code and event date. Photos of the pew ends or attachment points can help us understand the fit.
