What a ciborium is

A ciborium is a covered, cup-shaped vessel for the hosts of Holy Communion. At Mass it holds the hosts to be consecrated and given in Communion, and afterward it keeps the consecrated hosts in the tabernacle, with its lid keeping them covered.
